Ward & Elynor's Summer 2007 Wanderings; Visit with Nebraska Cousins

Sadly and regretably missing our breakfast meeting with our Nephew Alvin & Shirley Bell, we were fortunate to be able to arrive shortly after lunch for a visit with Cousin Marvin & Gaylene Weber in Arnold NE.
Marvin is the second oldest of my Aunt Hazel's boys; born in 1930, I don't remember playing with him much when I was a preteen ager on our one or two visits to Nebraska while growing up; more likely he and my brother Bob played together and Marvin's older brother, Bunny, played with my older brother, Jim. I would have been left to play by myself or entertain myself by admiring Uncle Harry Weber's store in Pleasant Hill a few miles east of Arnold.

On our honeymoon 59 years ago, the Grand Mother and Grumpy stayed one night in the Custer Hotel in Arnold, and probably had supper with Uncle Harry and Aunt Hazel before going out in the country near Tryon NE to see my Grandfather Zierlein who was too ill to attend our wedding in Rapid City. Marvin and Gaylene now live in the house that their parents lived in at that time.

We had a good visit, seeing eye-to-eye on the mainline theological issues even though Marvin and Gaylene belong to the Nazarene church. We reminisced about other cousins -- where they were, when we saw them last, etc. Marvin commented that he hadn't seen Ed Zierlein for a long time. Marvin and I agreed that we should try to arrange a "cousin get together" at some convenient place between Seattle, Coeur d'Alene and Arnold NE. The sooner the better.
