7 September 2008, somewhere in South King County:
I don't quite know how this story is going to wind up, or how it is going to go over. But Grumpy believes it is just too good a story not to be told. Another person may disagree. Grumpy may suffer some extended deprivations of Lemon Meringue Pie.
After church on Sunday, the Grand Mother suggested that it had been awhile since we had enjoyed the company of our long-time good friend Margaret M. It being a beautiful sunny day, Grumpy agreed and after a quick telephone call to make sure Margaret was available, the Grand Mother and Grumpy made ready to go out the door. Of course the Grand Mother had to change her clothes -- she allowed(?) Grumpy to remain in his "grubbies", but she would not be seen in public without her "Sunday-go-to-Meeting" duds on. Finally we were both ready. But the Grand Mother couldn't find her eyeglasses.
Grumpy checked on her desk; he checked under her desk; he checked on her bed, under the bed and between the sheets and covers. Grumpy looked in the bathroom (the Grand Mother said that the last she remembered, she had taken them off to wash her face); Grumpy looked in the dining room, the living room and the kitchen. The eyeglasses were no where to be found.
As Grumpy began re-checking the places he had looked before, he spied a pretty, flowered glasses case containing a pair of eyeglasses!! He brought them out to the Grand Mother, grumbling a little bit, "Why did you take off that little cord I bought you so you could hang them around your neck so you wouldn't lose your glasses!?"
"But I didn't take it off!" Grand Mother objected. "These are my old glasses!"
"Well, will they work?" queried Grumpy.
The Grand Mother put them on and agreed that "they would do". In fact, she then decided that they might even give her better vision than her "new ones" -- the ones we couldn't find.
We had a delightful lunch at the Panera Bakery in Kent with Margaret and then went nearby to the Coldstone Creamery where we finished off our afternoon with some ice cream.
As Grumpy drove up the hill to take Margaret back to her home, the Grand Mother suddenly exclaimed with joy, "AHA!! My eyeglasses aren't lost after all!! They were here all the time!!"
All three of us erupted in laughter the rest of the way up the hill and on to Margaret's house. Grumpy said, "This is too good not to go in the BLOG!"
Where do you think the Grand Mother's eyeglasses were hiding? Where did Grumpy forget to look?

My guess:
ReplyDeleteOn her head.
Around the Grand Mother's neck, of course. If it was a snake it would have bitten you!

ReplyDeleteOoh! That would have hurt!!
Around her neck but inside her clothes when she changed?
ReplyDeletePawPaw: You got it! And you can imagine what Grumpy said ...!
