The day of the big Birthday Celebration (Saturday, 4 August, to be exact) there were enough boys with the surname "Z" to surround the wor..... --- well, to surround a very large tree. One of the smaller boys -- actually, the smallest, Aiden -- invited the Great Grumpy and others to go for a walk into "the woods" with him. Aiden's papa, Ray (a Grandson who has so far not shown any tendency to allow his Grandpa to get in trouble with his Grandma), was also allowed to come along -- presumably so that "papa would not have to worry about his little boy 'way back in the deep woods".
All sorts of hazards were encountered, including a fallen tree over which the crossing of a rushing river had to be negotiated; a photo of the river is not shown because Grumpy has always been advised NOT to look down when he is at a height of more than about 6.5 feet above the ground. (Falls
have happened! Just ask the Grand Mother.)

In the meantime, some skilled track-sniffing members of the Z clan had picked up our trail and soon caught up with our little party. Shown in this photo is Dalton, the oldest of the male Great Grandsons in this part of the country. Another Great Grandson, James Michael, was also a member of the track-sniffing group, but for reasons unbeknownst to this author, his picture did not appear on the camera's permanent memory. It is hoped that his image will soon appear on another post.
Actually, a third member of the track-sniffing people, one Ward Howard (an infamous and mischievous Grandson who has previously shown an inability to keep his Grandpa out of trouble with his Grandma), appeared just as this entire party (now numbering six -- including one frog which was caught by Dalton) was starting to wend their way back towards base camp (Harry & Peggie's house).
Stay tuned for more adventures at eleven.
